Positions follow the numpad layout used by Advanced SubStation Alpha: 7-8-9 for the top row, 4-5-6 for the middle, and 1-2-3 for the bottom. The tool writes the matching {\an8}-style tag into every cue of SRT files, and into the Text field of every Dialogue line in ASS/SSA files. Existing italic, bold, and color tags are left untouched — only the alignment marker is added or removed. For ASS files with heavy styling, converting a copy with convert to SRT first can make the result compatible with simpler players and TVs.
If after using this tool your subtitles do not appear in the correct place, your video player does not support custom positions. VLC Media Player supports them well. You might also see position markers like {\an8} as visible text in players that do not support positioning — you can remove them with the Remove position option of this tool.
