How to Download Vimeo Subtitles Free (SRT/VTT, No Software)
Unlike YouTube, Vimeo has no auto-captions — subtitles exist only when the uploader added them. When they do, quality is usually high. Here is how to download Vimeo subtitles with our Vimeo downloader as SRT, VTT or TXT.
3-step how-to
- Copy the vimeo.com/ID URL (or player.vimeo.com embed, or unlisted link with hash).
- Paste it into vimeo downloader and click Download Subtitles.
- Pick a language and save SRT (VLC/MPV), VTT (web), or TXT (transcript).
vimeo.com vs player.vimeo.com vs unlisted hash URLs
Public page URLs and public embed URLs both work. Unlisted links with a hash work when playable logged-out. Password-protected, private, rental/OnDemand and domain-restricted embeds are not accessible.
SRT vs VTT vs TXT
SRT is universal for players and editors. VTT is built for HTML5 web video. TXT strips timestamps for reading, quoting and translating. Every track converts to all three.
Troubleshooting
No subtitles found? The uploader added no text tracks — normal on Vimeo. Private/password? Not supported. Embed-restricted? Open the video on vimeo.com instead. OnDemand rental? DRM rentals are not supported.
