BBC iPlayer Subtitles: Turn On, Download & Fix Them (2026)
Nearly every on-demand BBC programme carries subtitles — but the switch hides in a different corner on every device. Here is how to turn BBC iPlayer subtitles on anywhere, restyle them, fix missing captions, and grab an SRT when you need the file itself.
Turn subtitles on (every device)
- Start the programme, then open the player settings (speech-bubble icon on web/mobile, Subtitles button on smart TVs).
- Toggle Subtitles on and choose English where multiple tracks exist.
- To keep them always on, enable captions in your device accessibility settings — iPlayer respects the system default.
Make them bigger and clearer
